Obituary

Edwynne F. "Pete" Burns, age 82 of Springfield, died August 31, 2010. Pete was born January 6, 1928 in Sikeston, Mo. He was the son of Raymond and Margaret Burns. His childhood was spent in Sikeston amongst extended family and then lived a short time in Jefferson City, Mo. He graduated from Greenwood High School in Springfield in 1946. That same year, Pete joined the U.S. Army and served in postwar Japan. After being honorably discharged from the military he attended Drury College. He was a member of Kappa Alpha Fraternity Pete is survived by his wife, Lugene (Greeno), of 16 years. He is also survived by his step-daughters, Erinn Johnson and her husband Doug of Springfield and Jill Ellis and her husband Mike of Springfield. Additional survivors include six grandchildren, Lindsay Johnson, Spencer Gahagan, Paige Johnson, Kole Johnson, Jace and Sophie Ellis all of Springfield; three cousins, Frances Hall, Jeanne Giesler and husband Larry and Joann Hermann of St. Louis Mo. After retirement, Pete enjoyed golf, travel and time spent with his grandchildren, family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Raymond and Margaret Burns. Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, September 3, 2010 at Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Nixa, Mo. Viewing will be held one hour prior to service. Burial will follow in Hazelwood Cemetery in Springfield, under the direction of Gorman-Scharpf Brentwood Chapel. In memory of Pete, memorial contributions may be made to Aldersgate United Methodist Church, Nixa, Mo. 65714 or the American Cancer Society .
