Obituary

After a life filled with love and laughter, Peggy Yvonne Harmon Fuge departed this world on September 13, 2023, in Springfield, Missouri.

Peggy was born on March 19, 1938, in Wray, Colorado, to Pearl "Pete" Harmon and Helen Zikmund Harmon. She grew up on a small country farm just outside Wray where she grew to love gardening, sewing, and writing. After graduating from Wray High School, she continued her education at Colorado State University in Ft. Collins, Colorado. She graduated from CSU in 1959 with a degree in Home Economics. She went on to earn her elementary education degree and Master's degree from Drury University in Springfield, Missouri.

While at CSU, she started her own family of three daughters and one son. The family moved to a small farm in Wellington, Colorado. While raising her children, Peggy worked at the hospital as a dietician, at a bakery as a cake decorator, and helped to start a small newspaper. She also enjoyed volunteering in 4-H and the local library.

In 1972, the family moved to Conway, Missouri, to a farm where they raised cattle and sheep and Peggy continued volunteering with Whippoorwill 4-H. She began her teaching career in Conway in 1975. She was proud to have taught at Joel E. Barber just outside of Lebanon, Missouri, and McGregor Elementary in Springfield, Missouri. In 1992, she was one of five teachers in Missouri to be nominated to the Hall of Excellence at the 4-state conference for the Association of Childhood Educators, International. After retiring from teaching, she continued to impact the knowledge of the community by volunteering at the Gray/Campbell Farmstead in Nathanael Greene Park, Springfield, Missouri.

Peggy found her lifelong dance partner, John Fuge, in 1982 and they married on August 6, 1983. They made their home in Springfield, Missouri. Together they attended Asbury United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother-in-law, Norman Krebill.

Peggy is survived by her husband, John; all four children, Debbie Hicks (Ronnie) of Ozark, Missouri, David Hutchinson (close friend, Linda) of Marshfield, Missouri, Susan Hutchinson of Arvada, Colorado, and Joan Roberts (John) of Niangua, Missouri; step-children Jeff (Lori) Fuge and Jennifer (Michael) Van Matre, six grandchildren, Amber Hicks, Jason Hicks (Terra), Cassie Roberts Stoll (Josh), Brittany Roberts-McElwain (Zach), Lydia Van Matre, and Emily Fuge; ten great-grandchildren;  one sister, Donna Krebill of Belton, Missouri, and nephew Michael Krebill (Alicia) and a great niece and nephew.
