Peggy Jean Culbertson, age 90, of Springfield, Mo passed away Thursday morning, June 30, 2016.
She was married on August 13, 1950 to Floyd Culbertson at First and Calvary Presbyterian Church and they celebrated 65 years together this past year.
Peggy was born on October 17, 1925 in Springfield, MO, the only child of Addie and Leslie Turner. She graduated from Springfield High School, MO State Teachers College and earned her Master's in Remedial Reading from Drury College. Peggy spent over 1500 hours volunteering and tutoring children in Springfield Public Schools prior to teaching Remedial Reading, primarily at Portland Elementary.
She made friends easily and drew people to her with her beautiful smile and easygoing personality. She was a devoted wife and the most wonderful Mother as well as best friend. She was loved and adored by her grandchildren. Her hobbies included traveling, bridge club, country drives, the Genealogy Society and aerobics, as well as loving nature and camping in her mini RV. She was also a lifelong MSU Bears Basketball and St. Louis Cardinals fan. She spent endless hours compiling books of family history, stories and photos from several generations that are treasured by her family.
Peggy was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd, in November this past year. She is survived by her daughters, Carol Bader (Jerry) and Gail Bowler (Marion) all of Springfield, MO; five grandchildren, Ben Bader (Jennifer), Zach Bader (Jessica), Jenny Cummins (Andrew), all of Springfield, MO, Matt Bowler (Carrie) of Jenks, OK, Kelly Bowler (Morgan) of Atlanta, GA and seven great-grandchildren, Courtney, Reese and Addie Cummins; Anna, Grant and Tai Bowler; and Keegan Floyd Bowler. She is also survived by her cousin, Maggie Schooley (Bob) of Tulsa, OK and her sister-in-law, Mary Jensen (Jim) of Blue Springs, MO.
We are grateful for the loving care of the staff at Quail Creek and for the friends she made there.
