Obituary

Pearl A. Hiett, age 101, of Springfield, MO departed this life peacefully on October 18, 2015 after a brief stay at Mercy Hospital Hospice following a stroke. Pearl was born May 12, 1914 in Chicago, IL. She was one of five children born to Louis and Mary Lorenz. Pearl attended Northwestern University and was an accountant and office manager. Pearl married Hubert Henry "Bucky" Hiett, and they had one son. Pearl and Bucky owned and operated businesses throughout the Midwest before settling in Springfield in the early 1960's where they owned the Sew & Sew' Fabric Shop. Pearl was a member of King's Way United Methodist Church and was an avid golfer and bridge player throughout her life. She was awarded a Lifetime Golf Pass by the Springfield-Greene County Park Board for her lifetime support of the golf program. Pearl played golf until she was 95 and continued to enjoy playing bridge at the Montclair Retirement Community, where she lived, and at the Springfield Senior Center. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers and one sister. Pearl is survived by her son Ron of Fairfax, VA; her sister Mary Bilotta of Chicago; sister-in-law Margaret Lee Overturff; and a host of loving nieces and nephews, as well as her many friends in Springfield. Pearl donated her body to science via the University of Missouri program for Medical Education and Research. Arrangements were handled by Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home. Memorial services for Pearl will be held in Springfield in the spring of 2016.
