Obituary

Paul Monroe Vickers was born to Ralph D. and Ella May Vickers on November 15, 1935, in Deepwater, Missouri. After a long battle with Alzheimer's Disease, he died January 20, 2021 from COVID-19 complications. Paul was a middle child of seven and had the privilege of growing up in the small Missouri town of Deepwater. He enjoyed playing basketball for Deepwater High School, where he met his future wife, Elise. He was also interested in auto mechanics at an early age and began working for a local mechanic during his high school days.

After completing high school, he married Elise and began growing his family. He started his 25 years of military service by joining The Army National Guard in 1954.

In 1958, he settled into his primary employment in various skilled positions at Bendix Corporation in Kansas City. He was an industrious person and worked hard to provide for his family. To earn extra money, he learned to repair televisions for a time, and he also operated a large Moonwalk bouncy-house at festivals for many years. He was a loyal employee at Bendix Corporation for 34 years until he accepted an early retirement offer. After retirement, he needed something to occupy his hands and mind, so he enrolled in and graduated from Vatterott technical school as a certified HVAC technician.

Paul always had a special appreciation for the beauty of nature. He often stood in awe of gorgeous sunsets or other natural surroundings and pondered the majesty of his maker.

The priority of family that his parents instilled in him stayed with him all his life. He remained a caring father who was accessible and fun-loving. He was available to listen and talk about anything from the mundane and trivial to the most important things in life. Above all, his faith in Christ was at the center of his life. He lived out his faith, which showed in his humility, kindness, gentleness, patience, generosity, and eagerness to share his faith with others.  Paul was a member of First Baptist Church in Oak Grove, Missouri for several decades.

He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Robert, Ralph and J.B. Vickers; sisters, Helen Adcock and Lillian Martin.

Paul is survived by four children, Wrenda (Scott) McKnight, Marshelle Vickers, Lanise (Steve) Blankenship and Shawn (Michelle) Vickers; six grandchildren, Fawn Boettler, Chantel McMain, Tayler McKnight, Sheyenne McKnight, Jacob Hood, and Isaac Hood; seven great-grandchildren; and one sister, Lois Vickers.

Due to Coronavirus, a private graveside service will be held at Englewood Cemetery in Clinton, MO, under the care of Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Biblical Ministries Worldwide, 1595 Herrington Rd., Lawrenceville, GA 30043-5616.  Please specify gift is for David and Lois Martin Account #004214.
