Obituary

Paul G. Nahon, Sr., passed away peacefully on January 19, 2017, with his loving wife, Sharon, by his side. Paul was born December 10, 1933, in Springfield, Missouri.

He was preceded in death by adored grandson, Paul G. Nahon, III; parents, Farris and Grace Nahon; and brother, Farris Nahon, Jr. He is survived by his wife, Sharon; son, Paul G., Jr. and his wife, Angel; daughter, Michelle Moulder and her husband, Earl Thomas Moulder, Jr.; and adored grandson, John Nahon. Also surviving are his sister-in-law, Nancy Nahon; and nieces, Natalie Saffee, Nichole Nahon, and Jennifer Nahon.

Paul's family owned Nahon and Sons Dry Goods, a wholesale dry goods business in Springfield, and he grew up working in the family business. Paul attended Culver Military Academy and Admiral Farragut Academy, graduating from Springfield High School. Paul attended Drury University and Southwest Missouri State College majoring in economics. He was a proud member of the Sigma Nu Fraternity.

Paul proudly served the country in the U.S. Army, stationed in the Nike Missle Program. While serving his country, Paul's father passed away. Paul then returned to Springfield to help run the family business. The family later sold the dry goods business and he became a builder and real estate developer, earning and maintaining his real estate broker's license.

Paul served the community throughout his life. He was a member and Deacon at South Street Christian Church. He was a past member of the Greene County Guidance Clinic Board, serving as President; a past member of the Missouri Department of Natural Resources Dam and Reservoir Safety Council; Sigma Nu Alumni Association, serving as President; and the Greene County Planning and Zoning Board, serving for many years as Chair. He also served on the Greene County Developmentally Disabled Board. Paul was active in politics. He served as Chair of the Greene County Republican Party, served on the Electoral College, and was Greene County Coordinator for U.S. Senators Blunt, Bond, and Danforth. He served as Greene County Coordinator for President Ronald Reagan and as the Seventh District Reagan-Bush Coordinator in 1984. He served as President of the Missouri Pachyderm Federation and on the Board of Directors of the National Federation of Pachyderm Clubs. Paul was a delegate to the Republican National Convention in 1980 and an alternate in 2004. He was also a delegate to the Missouri Republican Convention for numerous years.

Paul received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Missouri Republican Party and Tough Tusk Award from the Greene County Pachyderm Club. He received the Missouri Republican Party VIP Award and was named in Who's Who in American Politics.

Paul was a member of the Solomon Lodge, Royal Arch Masons, St. John's Commandery, and Abou Ben Adhem Shriners, where he served as Captain of the Shrine Motor Corps. Paul was a long-time (3-digit) member of Hickory Hills Country Club, where the family spent many hours on the tennis courts. Paul, Sr., is now in heaven with Paul, III, enjoying a set or two of tennis.

Services will be held at King's Way United Methodist Church at 1:00 p.m., Friday, January 27, 2017, with visitation to follow in the Chapel.
