Obituary

Paul Eugene Hume, born April 27, 1944 to Col. Dr. Jack Hume and Ann Gallagher Hume in Dallas, Texas, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on December 26, 2024 at Mercy Hospital, Springfield, Missouri.

Paul, the eldest of six siblings, who (lovingly) nicknamed him "Bully", spent his active childhood raising homing pigeons, playing Kiwanis baseball, participating in high school track for St. Agnes, and he even built a motorcycle from a bike and lawn mower engine. After attending Southwest Missouri State, he enlisted in the United States Army Reserves and served in the dental unit.

Paul built his 43-year long career at Paul Mueller Company in Sales and Marketing. He had a vast knowledge of the stainless-steel industry and developed many lasting relationships with colleagues and clients throughout the United States and Canada.  Paul excelled in sales as he was a charismatic person who never met a stranger.  He could connect with anyone and everyone and was loved and respected by all.

Paul's passion for life was evident in how he spent his time.  He loved the lake, boating, and was an excellent slalom skier.  He was a natural at repairing things-if it was broken, he could fix it. Large family gatherings were common and full of fun, great food, fellowship, and an occasional cocktail.  Most important to Paul was his family.  He remained close to all of his siblings, their families and had many lifelong friends.

In his retirement years, he continued to focus even more meticulously on the care of his yard and home.  He was on a first-name basis with many retail store employees.  He generously supported his church and volunteered with ground maintenance at LifeHouse. His siblings depended on his expertise and connections with their every need.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his younger brother, John and nephew, Stephen.

Paul is survived by his cherished wife, Vicki, his two daughters, Suzanne Michelle (John), Krista Lynn (Brett), their mother, Marilynn, granddaughter, Ericka (Zack), siblings, Terry, Michael, Jana (Malcolm), Karen, sister-in-law, Dee, mother-in-law, Beverly Emmitt, brother-in-law, Rick Emmitt (Vicky), and many nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family.

A special thank you to family friend Keri Lee and to the caregivers at Mercy Hospital.

The immediate family will gather at Holy Trinity for a Mass of the Resurrection.

A celebration of life will be held at Twin Oaks Country Club on Saturday, January 11, 2025 from 2:00-4:00 p.m.

Memorial donations may be made to CleanEarth4Kids.org or your charity of choice in his honor.
