Paul Hickman, of Springfield, MO passed away at 7:48 pm on June 18, 2017 at the age of 85. Paul was born in Cross Timbers, MO and moved to Springfield in 1950 to attend Southwest Missouri State College and pursue a degree in Chemistry. Throughout a distinguished career as a Chemical Engineer of nearly 50 years, Paul worked for DuPont, City of Springfield, Hood-Rich Architects and Engineers and as an independent consultant.
While attending college Paul met Carolyn, his wife of 61 years. Paul and Carolyn had three sons: Brad, David and Brian. Paul loved spending time with his family, including his eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Paul was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan, loved solving crossword puzzles, applying his analytical prowess to handicap thoroughbreds and use his incredible memory to tell great stories and dominate in family Trivial Pursuit matches.
Paul is survived by his wife Carolyn (Piper), brother Billy and Jo Ann of Tarpon Springs, FL, three sons and their families - Brad and Linda Hickman of San Antonio, TX, David and Mary Hickman of Fenton, MO, Brian and Brandy Hickman of Springfield, MO, eight grandchildren – Lauren, Amanda, David, Jr., Caleb, Katherine, Hannah, Abby, Piper, and three great grandchildren – Dylan, Penny and Hank.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Thursday, June 22nd at Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home in Springfield, MO. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, June 23rd at South Street Christian Church in Springfield, MO, with burial following at Maple Park Cemetery.
