IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Patricia
Waterfield
August 19, 1934 – September 1, 2016
Patricia Gray Waterfield, 82, passed away peacefully in her sleep on September 1 at her daughter Susan's home in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. "Patty", as many of her friends knew her, suffered from COPD. She was born on August 19, 1934 in Chicago and grew up in Falls Church, Virginia. She graduated from Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri, where she met the love of her life Jim on a blind date, and went on to earn her Physical Therapy degree at Washington University in St. Louis. They were married in 1956 in Falls Church. In St. Louis, she practiced Physical Therapy at area hospitals. They then moved to Washington, D.C. where they lived for several years. In 1962, they moved to Springfield where Jim joined Smith Glynn Callaway Clinic and Patty worked at Upjohn/Oxford Healthcare, and volunteered at St. Johns Hospital, the Cerebral Palsy Center, Springfield Symphony, the Federal Medical Center, and was President of the Art Group at the Springfield Museum of Art and the Brentwood Club. She also served for many years on the Alter Guild at St. James Episcopal Church. She retired in the early 1990s, around the time she and Jim bought an RV and began traveling across the US and Canada with their beloved dog Pokey at their side. They were active in the RV community as members of the Heartland Executives Club, and spent many winters in Ft. Meyers, Florida where they made great friends and enjoyed the camaraderie of their RV community. Patty's hobby was making beautiful, hand-crafted teddy bears, and she enjoyed teaching bear-making classes and sharing her passion with others. After Jim passed away in 2015, she and her devoted dog Toby moved to Michigan to be closer to her children. She and Jim were very proud of their children and grandchildren and enjoyed spending time with family. Patty is survived by her children Susan (Lou) Reid of Bloomfield Hills, MI, Sharon (Doug) Owen of Louisville, KY, and Steven Waterfield of New York, NY, as well as her brother Bill (Pam) Bailey of Chevy Chase, MD, and her beloved grandsons Alex, Ryan and Clayton Reid and Henry, Charlie and Gray Owen, as well as several nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her husband of 59 years Jim Waterfield, infant son David Michael, parents Fred and Frances Bailey, brother Fred (Marilyn) Bailey Jr, and son-in-law Mike Bottaro. Visitation will be at 10am on Friday at St. James Episcopal Church, followed by the funeral service at 11am and burial handled by Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery at 1pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her honor to Smith Glynn Callaway Medical Foundation c/o Community Foundation of the Ozarks, P.O. Box 8960, Springfield, MO 65801.
