Obituary

Patricia ("Patty') Sue Johnston was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. She passed away in her home on Friday, February 4, 2022. Preceding her in death were her parents, Cecil and Marcella Carnahan; and husband of 57 years George W. Johnston, Jr. Patty is survived by her son, Walt (Carol); daughters, Christie (John) and Susie (David); grandchildren Ryan, Staci (Robert), Ashley (Jhett), Sarah, Lauren (John), and Jordan; great-grandchildren Paris, Brooklyn, Jade, and Matthew; bonus grandchildren Joe (Beckie), Hannah, Dave, and John; bonus great-grandchildren Caroline and Caylie; brother John (Linda): cousins John (Jenny) and Frank (Susan).  She also leaves behind her beloved cats.

Patty was a life-long member of Campbell United Methodist Church. She could be found in the same pew almost every Sunday and even met her husband, George, through the youth choir. Patty and George lived a full life together.  During George's service in the Airforce, he and Patty lived in multiple cities, but finally settled down in Springfield.  Springfield was always home to Patty.  During their marriage, George and Patty embarked on many adventures, whether it be riding motorcycles together in Chadwick, traveling the world with friends, or founding Johnston Industrial Supply.

Patty was devoted not only to her family, but to various non-profit organizations.  Most notably, she and George were ardent supporters of the Missouri State University Foundation and Athletic Department.

One of Patty's favorite things to do was eating and socializing at Highland Springs Country Club ("HSCC"). She and her husband George were part of the founding membership of HSCC and enjoyed their many years of membership. They were there so often they had a standing reservation for "their table" in the corner of the dining room! Patty would befriend the young waitstaff and call them her Highland kids. A huge thank you to HSCC and HSCC security for always being available to help Patty and catering to her needs- including making sure Beringer Chenin Blanc was available for her. Patty enjoyed shopping and could frequently be found at the Harem Boutique. Visiting and having a glass of wine (10-2-4) with the ladies at the Harem was always a highlight in her day.

The family would like to give a special thanks to Patty's caretaker, Danielle Jackson, for her loving care, compassion, friendship, and assistance.

Patty will be laid to rest next to her husband in a private family graveside service, under the direction of Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home. The family has requested memorials to be made in Patty's name to the Humane Society of Southwest Missouri.
