Obituary

Patricia A. Dwyer, known to all as Patti, was born December 10, 1930, to William R. "Buck" Winn and Katherine Quisenberry Winn, along with her twin sister, Jo Ann Winn Phillips. Patti died May 26, 2014. Surviving are her daughter Peggy Diane Dwyer of Melbourne Beach, Florida and Peggy's son Colin Dwyer-Keon; son Thomas Winn "Tommy" Dwyer of Springfield, Missouri and his step-sons Maxwell Karasek, Zachary Karasek, and Trevor Karasek; daughter Claire Dwyer Nelson of Houston Texas and her daughter Amelia and husband Edwin; daughter Cathleen Dwyer Scholl of Roswell, Georgia, her children Steven and Caitlin, and husband Brad; and daughter Eileen "Tootie" Dwyer of Houston, Texas. Patti was also survived by nieces Valerie Phillips Mitchem and Alison Phillips Smith and their families, her dear little dog Candy, and former husband, Thomas D. Dwyer. Patti graduated from Springfield Senior High School, and after a freshman year at Ward-Belmont College, ultimately graduated magna cum laude from Drury College in 1952. Although accepted for employment with the Central Intelligence Agency, she decided to move to New York City where she worked for Remington Rand for a year, then returning to Springfield to marry law student Thomas D. Dwyer. Patti was a cheerful, positive and outgoing person, and had great empathy for others. She was very involved in her children's activities, and her love for them and her pride in their accomplishments knew no bounds. She was also an intelligent follower of national politics and put into practice her belief in local community service. Patti's memberships included: Lamba Alpha Lambda and Pi Beta Phi sororities; Mortar Board Honor Society; Missouri University Law Wives, including a term as president; Girls Club of Springfield, including a term as board president; Twentieth Century Art Group; Junior League; and Hickory Hills Country Club. Visitation will be held at Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home from 5-7 PM on Friday, May 30, 2014. Private burial services conducted by Monsignor Thomas Reidy will follow on Saturday, May 31, 2014. Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
