Owen Harvey Case, 81, Springfield, passed away on March 29, 2014, in the Magnolia Square Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was born on February 9, 1933 to Yulah and Clyde Case in Fair Grove, Missouri. He is preceded in death by his parents and his beloved wife of 39 years, Hazel. Owen is survived by his daughters Marcella (Mark) Lesher and Melinda (Kenneth) Blackburn; grandchild Justin (April) Blackburn, and step-grandchildren Kenny, Matthew, and Loni Blackburn; sisters Miriam Keesling and Angela Van Giesen, and brother Benjamin (Nancy) Case; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Owen, who received his doctorate in education in 1981 from the University of Missouri, was a devoted teacher and administrator for the Springfield Public Schools. He retired as district coordinator for secondary social studies in 1990. He adored his wife and children. He loved to travel and tell jokes. He was a voracious reader with a broad range of interests. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Springfield R12 School District Foundation or the OTC Educational Foundation, or to the charity of the donor's choice. Visitation will be Thursday, April 3, 2014 from 1 to 2pm in Gorman-Scharpf Brentwood Chapel. Funeral services will follow at 2pm in the funeral home with the Rev. Jim Mason officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant View Cemetery in Elkland, MO.
