Orlin A. "Lin" Scott was born in Hartville, Missouri January 12, 1926 to Andrew A Scott and Elsie Gladys Scott. He died peacefully June 3, 2017 following a stroke.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Donald Scott, sisters Patricia and Geraldine Scott Stock and his wife, Darlene Bacon Scott.
Orlin raised five children, David Scott (Karen), Gary Scott, Linda Sloan (Bruce), Carolyn Farrar (Gary), and Mike Scott (Connie). There are 10 granchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and loving friends.
He joined the Navy when he was 18, and spent the duration of his duty in New York on the USS Seattle as Coxswain. He returned to Rogersville MO after WWII, and joined the Civil Air Patrol.
Orlin held various jobs including bible, vacuum, sewing machine and furniture sales. He was co-owner of the Surf Club Bar. He started selling cars in 1954 and was the top Edsel salesman in 1958 in the state of Missouri. He eventually had his own car lot, Scott Motor Sales on St Louis Street in Springfield.
After retiring, he and Darlene moved to Springfield. He happily spent his retirement woodworking and having his daily coffee with "the boys" at the mall.
Orlin is a lifetime member of the BPOE Elks Lodge 409 and was elected Exalted Ruler in 1974. He served in other capacities, including District Deputy Grand Exalted Ruler. He was an avid supporter of the lodge, there was no assistance he would not provide for them.
Funeral services will be held Friday, June 9, 2017 at 10:00 AM in Gorman-Scharpf funeral home with the Reverend Caroll Holmes. Burial will follow at Green Lawn Memorial Gardens, and visitation will be held from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Thursday in the funeral home.
