Ona Myra Renner, age 98, of Springfield, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away Tuesday, May 15, 2018.

The daughter of the late Ben and Anna Hoffmeyer, Ona was born March 24, 1920 in Fulton, MO.  Her cheerfulness and outgoing personality won for her the title of "Miss Callaway" during the years between graduating from Fulton High School and her marriage to her high school sweetheart, Glenn L. Renner on June 21, 1940.  In the year 2014 they were blessed to celebrate their 74th anniversary surrounded by family and friends.

Ona moved with her husband to several locations during his WW II service, beginning in 1942 until he was sent overseas.  Later they lived in Houston, TX for fifteen years during which time she served as manager of a Top Value Redemption Store.  After their retirement in 1981 the couple returned to Springfield to be nearer their children and other family members.

She took great pride in fostering the success of her entire family, the center of her life.  Although unwavering in loving them unconditionally, her son and daughter benefited from her straightforward approach to life which she tempered with humor, concern and compassion.

Ona was very young at heart and could connect with any age.  She was "Granny" to five adoring grandchildren and when they were small her play corners and imagination will remain treasured memories in their hearts.  As they grew to adulthood she was a steadfast source of support and strength while providing numerous spur-of-the-moment meals and care packages.

For less time that she would have enjoyed, her later years were further blessed with seven great-grandchildren with who she forged a special bond; Cole, Lauren and Carly Forbes, Alivia Mowris and Knox, Tallulah and Tennessee Plute.

Her intuition served her well to anticipate the needs of her neighbors and she was out and about helping them daily, sharing herself and her time.

A faithful member of Chapel Bible Class and First Baptist Church of Springfield, she expressed constant concern for the well-being of the church family and helping where she could.

She is survived by a loving family which includes her sister, Hazel Jones of Athens, TX; son, Bruce Renner and wife Pat; daughter, Robyn Renner; five grandchildren, Lance Renner, Liz Forbes and husband Brent; Jill Mowris and husband Benjamin; Andrea Pemberton and husband Michael; and Kiersten Jewell and husband Brice; seven great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In the last two years of her life she forged special bonds with care givers who loved her as family at The Arbors at Ravenwood.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. with a funeral service beginning at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 18, 2018 in Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home.  Private family graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, May 21, 2018 in Missouri Veterans Cemetery.
