Omer Marsh, 92, of Springfield, MO passed away October 2, 2015 at Manorcare Health Care Services. He was born August 24, 1923 the son of Thomas Reed and Nellie (Vernon) Marsh in Miller, Missouri. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corp in 1942 and served in the Pacific during World War II, including the battle of Iwo Jima. While in the service he was awarded the Purple Heart and Good Conduct Medal. He was discharged in 1946, with the rank of corporal. Omer worked at 166 Auto Auction, George Hays Fire Protection, Lockheed Martin, and Santa Fe Railroad. He enjoyed fishing, woodworking, gardening and St. Louis Cardinals baseball. He was preceded in death by his sister Nixola F. Willenberg; brother Thomas Richard Marsh; the love of his life Connie Fairchild; and his parents. Omer is survived by his son Jerry Lee Marsh, Springfield, MO; two granddaughters Cindy and Linda Marsh; one grandson Jerry Lee Reed; and seven great-grandchildren; and numerous friends in the community. Graveside services will be Friday, October 9, 2015 at 2:00pm in Salem Cemetery, North of Mount Vernon, MO. Visitation will be Friday, October 9, 2015 from 12pm-1pm in Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home, Springfield, MO.
