Norris "Buck" Atkinson, age 87, passed away on January 18, 2026.

Buck was born on September 4, 1938, in Fordland, Missouri. He was a graduate of Central High School in Springfield, Missouri, and proudly served his country in the United States Navy.

Buck was married to the love of his life, Jody Atkinson, for 49½ years. Together they made their home in Springfield, Missouri, where they raised their children and built a life rooted in family, life-long friendships and hard work.

He is survived by his children: Jef Atkinson and wife Veronica of Springfield, Missouri; Crystle Nell and husband Robert of Springfield, Missouri; and Gene Atkinson and wife Sandy of Owasso, Oklahoma.  He is also survived by his 13 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews who loved him dearly.

Buck was preceded in death by his father, Harley Atkinson; his mother, Dorene Atkinson; brothers Ray Atkinson and Fred Atkinson; sister Geraldine Horrell; his beloved wife, Jody Atkinson; and his son, Kevin Atkinson.

Buck will be remembered for his strength, steady work ethic, and sense of humor, always leading by example and placing his family above all else.

A celebration of life will begin at 11:00 a.m. Sunday, February 1, 2026 in Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home with visitation to follow. Private family burial with military honors will be at a later date in Missouri Veterans Cemetery.
