IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Norman Christopher
Montgomery
January 30, 1926 – September 3, 2020
Norman Christopher Montgomery passed away September 3, 2020 at Copper Rock Village in Rogersville, Missouri at the age of 94. He was born at home on the family farm in Lockwood, Missouri on January 30, 1926 to Howard and Helen Louise (Johnson) Montgomery. He married Betty (Elizabeth Louise Potter) Montgomery on June 10th, 1951. They had four daughters and were married for 61 years. Norman graduated from Lockwood High School where he followed in his cousin Woodrow's footsteps as the quarterback of the Tigers football team in between helping on his parent's and uncle's farms. After graduation he served in the US Navy during WW11 on the destroyer USS Gatling and was in Tokyo Bay for the Japanese surrender. After the war, he bought his Uncle Clovis Montgomery's farm, where he and Betty lived until 1957.
They moved their growing family to Kansas City where he was a successful home-builder for many decades along with his brother Olen. They devoted their lives to loving and raising four daughters: Sherri, Michele, Dana, and Terri.
Norman built many fine custom homes for families throughout the Kansas City area. Norman and Betty retired in 1991 to Kimberling City, Missouri, where Norman built a custom home on Table Rock Lake designed by daughter Terri Ashley. Norman and Betty enjoyed many years on the lake. As Betty's health deteriorated, Norman graciously served as her caregiver the last years of her life.
Norman was a gentle, strong, devoted man, who loved his family. He was soft spoken by nature but enjoyed quietly telling stories, often getting tickled at his own jokes, such as: "He was the most popular boy in school - actually he was the only boy in his school."
He was preceded in death by his dearly beloved wife Betty Montgomery, parents Howard and Helen Montgomery, sister Naomi McArthur, and son-in-law Gary Ashley. He leaves his daughters Sherri Lynn Grove of Rogersville, Missouri; Michele Ann Holland (Jim) of Bucyrus, Kansas; Dana Sue Fuchs (Robert) of Ozark, Missouri; and Terri Lee Ashley of Spring Hill, Kansas. Norman dearly loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Whitney Grove (Cariel) children: Peyton and Jeffrey; Nicholas Grove (Rebecca); Colby Grove (Jennifer) daughter: Josalyn; Jamie Holland Young (Dennis) daughters Marissa and Ashlyn; Austin Holland; Jill Holland Hill (Eric) son Jacob; Meredith Holland Thompson (Trevor) daughters: Madelyn, Grace, and Blaire; J.D.(James Drury) Holland (Jennifer); David Fuchs (Sarah) children: Ryan, Kaitlyn, Alex, Jackson; Alyson Fuchs Baker (R. Michael) son: James; John Fuchs (Esther) children: Derek, Anastasia, and Juliette; Jacob Fuchs (Grace) sons: Alaric and Wolfric; Amber Ashley Ferguson (J.B.) children: Jordan and Bodie; Aaron Ashley (Carrie); and Hunter Ashley. Norman leaves his brother Olen Montgomery (Janet) and sister Joyce Montgomery Bartlett (Rodney) as well as many beloved nieces, nephews, and family friends.
