IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Norma Jean
Wiemer
October 18, 1932 – January 3, 2025
Norma Jean Wiemer, loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend passed away on Friday, January 3, 2025. She was born October 18, 1932 in Burlington, Iowa to Frieda and Harold Brandt. She married Roger Allen Wiemer on October 19, 1952.
During the early years of their marriage, Roger worked for J.C. Penney Company and was transferred to a few different cities, landing in Springfield, Missouri in 1970. Norma took a job with KWTO as a copy writer, something she had also done while living in LaCrosse, WI. In 1971, they made a career move, entering the bowling business by purchasing Cherokee Lanes. Norma worked the grille, for seven years and was famously known for her ham salad. Over the years, they bought and sold other bowling centers, where she worked tirelessly alongside Roger, cleaning and helping with remodeling. She wasn't afraid to conquer anything! One of the bowling centers had a skating rink in the basement. Norma's dad was a mechanic and hated rust. He passed that trait onto her. She single handedly cleaned and lubricated over 200 pair of roller skates. She also hated dust and dirt. If you arrived at one of the centers in the morning, you could usually find her either outside pulling weeds and trimming bushes, or on her hands and knees inside, with a bucket of soapy water cleaning baseboards or stairs. In her "spare" time, she would help Roger with cleaning, painting and staining their antique furniture and clock collection, as well and cleaning and polishing their mechanical bell collection. Keeping all of that dusted was a full time job! She could upholster furniture, cane chairs and was an incredibly talented and creative seamstress. While in Independent Living at The Montclair, she would lovingly alter and repair clothing for the other residents. Sewing brought her true joy.
Norma loved her family dearly and enjoyed any time she could spend with them. On Christmas, she was having a great day and was able to leave the care facility to celebrate the holiday with family. She was literally beaming!
She is survived by three children, Calla Wiemer of Los Angeles, CA, Steve Wiemer and wife Carla of Springfield, MO, and Randy Wiemer and wife Mary of Columbia, MO; three grandchildren, Jennifer Seris and husband Chris of Manchester, MO, Zach Wiemer and wife Jen of McFarland, WI, and Rayne Peerenboom of Los Angeles, CA; four great-grandchildren, Jackson, June, Sylvie and Nate.
We would like to offer a sincere thank you to the staff at Maranatha Village for the kindness and great care they gave Norma over the past five months. In addition, we thank the staff at Turners Rock for providing a great place for her Assisted Living years.
Per Norma's wishes, there will be no visitation or service. Norma and Roger joined Messiah Lutheran Church in 1970. They were very involved members, contributing both their time and talents. If you would like to make a memorial contribution, please consider Messiah Lutheran Church, 925 E Seminole St, Springfield, MO 65807 or any charity of your choice.
