Obituary

Norma Jean Wakefield Watts was born October 22, 1926 to William and Myrtle Wakefield in Fair Play, Missouri. Norma was the Fair Play class of 1944 valedictorian and graduated from Draughan's Business College. She worked as office manager for local auctioneers and builders. Norma is survived by her husband, Victor Watts and their three children, Vicki Newport, David Watts and partner Sheri Shipley, and Phillip Watts and wife Liz Watts all of Springfield. Norma is also survived by five grandchildren, Jonathan and Matthew Newport, Jennifer York and husband Justin York, Ben Watts and Oliver Watts, as well as four great-grandchildren, Makayla and Kelsey Watts and Baylor and Bentley York. She leaves behind two special nieces, Sandra Harrison, husband David Harrison and Alana Montgomery, husband Bruce Montgomery. Norma will be remembered for her enduring love of family, friends and all children. At Grace Methodist Church she taught Sunday School, Bible School and worked in Youth and Women's organizations. She devoted her time to her children through Camp Fire Scouting, sports, Project Graduation and PTA. With friends she dearly loved, she enjoyed playing bridge and supporting the Springfield Art Museum. With her husband she enjoyed dancing, playing cards, outings at the lake and supported his business with her talents in the kitchen. She was always ready to help family and friends. She was truly "The Wind Beneath Our Wings". Preceding her in death were her parents; two sisters, Georgia Fox, husband Clifford and Kathleen Kennon, husband Ralph; brother, Athel Wakefield, wife Edna and their daughters Bobbie and Jeannine. Norma passed from this life into the arms of Jesus on March 23, 2013 where she will have no more sickness, pain or worry. Visitation will be held Wednesday, March 27, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. in Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. Burial immediately following at Eastlawn Cemetery.
