Norma J Hartman (Jean)
May 17, 1932 – September 16, 2022

Norma J. Hartman, 90, of Springfield passed away peacefully on Friday, September 16, 2022 following a lengthy illness.  She was born in Lebanon, MO on May 17, 1932 to Earl and Etta Coffman of Lebanon.  As a 1950 graduate of Lebanon High School she maintained close-knit bonds over the years with others in her class.  Norma was active in professional and philanthropic organizations including the WSU Women's Association, formerly the WSU Dames, of Wichita State University (WSU).  For almost 50 years, she was a member of the Philanthropic Educational Organization (P.E.O. Sisterhood), a women's philanthropic organization which provides educational opportunities, grants, loans and scholarships to women for their college education.  Norma Jean was the loving wife of Dr. John J. Hartman, Professor Emeritus and long-time chair of the Sociology Department at WSU.  Following his retirement, Jean established and funded the John J Hartman Endowed Scholarship for promising students in the field of Sociology at WSU.  Norma was preceded in death by her husband of almost 60 years, John J. and her parents, Etta and Earl Coffman.  Jean is survived by two brothers-in-law: Fred E. Hartman and Charles K. Crawford; nine very special nieces and nephews and several great nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held Friday, September 30, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. with funeral services to follow at 11:30 a.m. in Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home.  Burial will be private in Missouri Veterans Cemetery.  Donations may be made to the Dr. John J.
