Obituary

Norma Sanders Dempsey, 86, Springfield, passed away on Friday, December 14, 2018, in the Manor at Elfindale, surrounded by her loving family.  She was born January 16, 1932 in Marion, Illinois, the daughter of Amos and Flora (Marshall) Sanders.
Norma was a Registered Nurse with the VA Hospital for most of her career. She was also one of the first Recovery Room nurses in the country at Duke University Hospital in Durham, NC.

After retiring from the VA, she moved to Springfield to be with her Grandchildren and worked as a nurse at the Marion Center.

Norma enjoyed traveling in Europe, was an avid reader and loved crossword puzzles and going to the movies. She was a devoted grandmother and had many adventures with her granddaughters.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister Betti Patterson.

She is survived by her son and his wife, Thomas and Christy Dempsey; a daughter Debra Shecterle; two grandchildren, Hilary Dempsey and Amanda Pearson; and three great-grandchildren.

A private family service will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Missouri Council of the Blind, 2713 North Kansas Expressway, Springfield, MO 65803.
