Norma Burns, 90, Springfield, MO, passed away on Saturday, July 8, 2017 in Quail Creek. She was born May 30, 1927 in Springfield, the daughter of Numa "Jack" and Nellie (Switzer) White. Norma worked as a civil service employee in the Washington, D.C. area until she married her first husband, Jack. She later moved back to Springfield where she began her career as a buyer at Heer's Department Store. She worked as a buyer in the millinery department for Netter's, and she also thoroughly enjoyed modeling for Netter's as well as Channel 10. She retired in 1965, when she married her second husband, Dr. Burns. She later worked in the millinery department at Savage-Juliette and at Newman's in the Battlefield Mall, after Dr. Burn's death.
Norma was in the Women's Auxiliary of Retired Officers Association, served on the Board at National Avenue Christian Church and later at Brentwood Christian Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Jack Ellis Whillans; her second husband, Dr. Thomas Jackson Burns; her half-sister, Patsy Singer; and her grand-dog, Blondie.
Norma is survived by her daughter, Jacquelyn Whillans of Springfield and her grand-dog, Sunny.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, July 17, 2017 in Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home with Father Tom Kiefer officiating. Burial will be in Rivermonte Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice or the Humane Society of Southwest Missouri, in Norma's honor.
