Nola Marie Winkle, 88, passed away on July 5, 2015 at Mercy Hospital, Springfield, MO. She was the oldest child born to Lester S. and Edna Swofford Winkle on August 20, 1926 in Blue Eye, MO. She is survived by two sisters, Bobbie and Doc Kinder of Rogersville, MO and Elsie Boatright of Fort Worth, TX; one brother, Johnnie and Yvonne Winkle of Troy, MO; two sisters-in-law, Sue Winkle of Harrison, AR and Cleo Winkle of Clinton, MO; 16 nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters Eileen Robinette and Vada Trost; and three brothers Cecil Ray Winkle, Earl Winkle and Hugh Winkle. Nola graduated from the Blue Eye High School and attended State Teachers College (MSU) that summer and began her teaching career that fall, teaching in rural schools in Carroll County, AR and Stone County, MO. She continued her college education in the summers and graduated with her BS degree in Education in 1951. She was then hired by the Springfield Public School district. She received her Master's in Education from the University of Arkansas in 1958 and received her Remedial Reading certificate from Drury University and began teaching Remedial Reading in Springfield Schools. She taught a total of 38 years. After retiring from teaching, she worked for H & R Block doing taxes for ten years. Nola was a lifetime member of Springfield Retired Teachers, national NEA, a charter member of Alpha Delta Kappa teacher's sorority. She was a 60-year member of University Heights Baptist Church where she served on many committees. She was a supporter of the MSU Bears and Lady Bears and an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan for many years. Visitation will be Wednesday, July 8, 2015 from 4 to 7pm in Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home. Graveside services will be Thursday at 11am in Blue Eye Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
