Oscar Neal Cannon, age 92, of Springfield, MO passed away Sunday, June 11, 2017 in his home. He was born December 30, 1924 in West Plains, MO to William Oscar and Lola Cannon. He went into the U.S. Navy in 1943 serving during WWII and later in the Korean War as a Sonar Specialist. Neal attended Southwest Missouri State University where he earned a B.S. degree in Marketing.
Neal married Juanita Jones on August 6, 1950. He started his career with Swift and Co. and later worked as an Insurance Agent for Atlas Life.
Much of Neal's life was dedicated to serving others as a volunteer with Juanita for the American Red Cross, Crosslines, Friends of the Library and as an Elder at First and Calvary. In 2015, he was a recipient of the Gift of Time Award.
He is survived by one son Mark and his wife Ann; one daughter Cathy Potts and husband Chip; granddaughters Lauran Elwart and husband Andrew, Sarah Cannon, Emily Potts; and great-grandchildren Nora, Abby and Adam Elwart.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday, June 14, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at First and Calvary Presbyterian Church with Rev. Chris Ham officiating, under the care of Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home. Burial will be at Missouri Veterans Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Crosslines, or Mercy Hospice.
