Obituary

Nancy Ann Mumford Benton, a kind gentle person and loving wife, who touched the lives of many in the Springfield area and elsewhere, passed away on February 2, 2014, in Springfield from a lengthy health issue. She was born in Springfield, Missouri on June 7, 1953, and was the daughter of the late Juanita Woosley and William Mumford of Springfield. She graduated from Glendale High School and attended Drury University. Nancy spent many years working in health administration as a receptionist, office manager and medical assistant. Her last position was as a medical secretary at the Smith-Glynn-Callaway Clinic in Springfield. She was an avid golfer and delighted in playing locally at Hickory Hills Country Club and in Scottsdale, Arizona, her favorite vacation area. She enjoyed reading, gardening, and shopping for clothes. She also loved her favorite Maltese named Candy. She loved to travel, and especially enjoyed ocean cruising. She resided in Florida, Iowa and Arizona, finally returning to her hometown of Springfield. She was an impeccable dresser and modeled clothing for several local ladies boutiques. Nancy was a very private person. She was a sincere friend to those she met and always had a big smile for everyone. She will be missed for her quick wit, sage advice, quiet support, and genuine interest in every person she met. She inspired those who knew her to be kind and to maintain integrity. She is survived by her husband Stephen M. Benton, her two sisters, Sheila Wray and her partner Denzil Terrill, Lesa (Frank) Starks, and her six step children, 7 grandchildren, 2 nieces, 2 nephews, their families, two aunts and several cousins.
