Nancy Jean Kiefer passed away March 14, 2017 at Cox South.
Nancy began her distinguished nursing career at Burge School of Nursing, and went on to earn her BSN from Drury University. She became head nurse in ICU at Cox North. Nancy was responsible for refining and supplementing the designs for the new ICU and CCU at Cox South when it was constructed in 1985. These units and her innovations are still in use today. She always enjoyed helping trauma patients, whether as a flight nurse, in ER, or the Cath Lab where she was also head nurse. She also traveled the country extensively to research the latest cardiac drugs/therapies and to introduce interventional stroke pharmaceutical advances to Southwest Missouri health facilities.
She was a member of First and Calvary Presbyterian Church where she was a Deacon and in the Chancel Choir.
She is survived by her husband Charles F. Kiefer Jr. and mother Dorothy Beesley, as well as sister Patsy Rhoades, brother Jim Beesley, and daughters Stephanie Widner and Kristin Walker.
The visitation will be Thursday March 16, 2017 from 6 to 8:00 p.m. at Gorman- Scharf Funeral Home, and the funeral service will be Friday March 17, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at First and Calvary Presbyterian Church. The family asks that in lieu of flowers that you kindly make donations to the Sarcoma Alliance ( sarcomaalliance.org ) or MD Anderson or a local charity of your choice.
