Nancy Gilbert Cantrell, age 86, died on Wednesday, October 8, 2014. She was born in Springfield, MO on June 29, 1928 to Robert D. and Grace Gilbert, and attended schools in Springfield, graduating from Central High School in 1946. She attended Southwest Missouri State College and was employed by the Frisco Railroad until her marriage to Roy M. Cantrell, Jr. in 1956. They lived in Houston and Pearland, TX. There Nancy worked for the Pearland Chamber of Commerce and eventually became the director of the Methodist Mothers Day Out. After retirement she and Roy moved back to Springfield. She was a lifetime member of South Street Christian Church. Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Roy and son Kevin, and her sister Martha Gilbert Johnson. She is survived by a special cousin Jerry Taylor and wife Ann of West Palm Beach, FL; several cousins in Utah; and special friends Frank and Cindy Fay. A memorial service will be held at a later date, along with a private burial service at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery where her ashes will be entombed with those of her husband. Memorial gifts may be made to South Street Christian Church or St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
