Nadine "Deanie" Arbeitman Smith, 89, passed away August 13th. Nadine was born in St. Louis, Missouri to Ben J. and Fannie Arbeitman. She graduated from Senior High School, class of 1952. She graduated from Drury College with a Bachelor of Arts degree majoring in Elementary Education.
Nadine was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Emanuel "Manny" Smith, her parents, Ben J. and Fannie Arbeitman, brother, Alan Arbeitman, and in-laws, Harry and Ella Smith. Nadine was married to Manny for 58 wonderful years. Nadine and Manny settled in Springfield, Nadine's hometown. Nadine was a loving wife to Manny and was so proud of her two children and two grandchildren. Family was of the utmost importance to Nadine and she instilled that in her children and grandchildren.
Nadine especially enjoyed playing mahjong for more than 20 years, and was an avid reader. She and Manny enjoyed entertaining and Nadine was a wonderful cook. Volunteer work was a large part of Nadine's life. She contributed greatly to Springfield through her volunteer efforts with the Boys and Girls Club of Springfield, the Junior League of Springfield, and Meals on Wheels. She was also a member of Temple Israel. Nadine loved her activity in her Art Group. She had many long-time friends in Springfield and from out of town.
Nadine is survived by her son, Neil Smith (Judy), daughter, Natalie Ann Smith, and grandsons Brandon Smith and Justin Smith (Madeline). Graveside services will be held on Thursday, 8/17 at 11:30 am CDT at the Temple Israel Cemetery, followed by a memorial service at 1:00 p.m. CDT at Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Boys and Girls Club of Springfield, 1410 N. Fremont, Springfield, Missouri 65802, and/or Temple Israel, 5910 S. Farm Road 193, Rogersville, Missouri 65742, and/or the charity of donor's choice.
Nadine's family especially thanks Magnolia Square Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation, as well as Season's Hospice for caring for Nadine.
