Obituary

Morris Leon Powell, 85, of Springfield, passed away on February 4, 2018. Morris was born in Springfield on July 19, 1932 to Charles and Beulah (Owens) Powell. He graduated from Strafford High School and spent four years in the Air Force. He married Betty Stow in 1953. After his time in the military, Morris spent over 40 years as a contracted hauler for Griesemer Stone Company. Morris was part of the Scottish Rite in Joplin, MO, Strafford Masonic Lodge #608, and South Haven Baptist Church. He loved to play the guitar, listen to Hawaiian guitar music, play golf, and enjoy restored antique cars.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters Barbara Myers and Geneva Davis.

He is survived by his wife Betty Powell of the home, daughter Frances Karpiak (Michael) of Havertown, PA, granddaughter Ashley Elizabeth Karpiak of Havertown, PA; sister Wanda Doran (Dexter) of Nixa; nephews Darren Myers, Randy Doran, and Jeff Doran; and niece Judy (Davis) Wise.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 8, 2018 at 1:00 pm at Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 7, from 6:30 – 8:00 pm at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society.
