Mona O'Rourke, 82, much loved mother,grandmother and friend, is now sharing heaven with her parents, siblings, her beloved husband, Jim and 16 year old granddaughter, Breanna O'Rourke, that passed away in January, peacefully in her sleep due to a long term illness. She was born December 10,1928 to Jason & Sadie Thompson. Her childhood was spent on the highest mountain in West Virginia. She met and married a handsome sailor, Jim, on July 23rd, 1954 in Virginia. They spent 39 blessed years together until he passed away in 1993. They moved to Springfield, MO in 1968 for 3 years and then lived 25 years in Tallahassee, FL. She moved back to MO in 1996 and made many new friends and had many wonderful years. She survived a severe car accident in 1957 and was pronounced DOA. But with her fighting spirit, strong will and positive outlook she survived. Even with the challenges from that, she made the most of everyday. She never met a stranger and had a "sunshine smile" for everyone. She would never pass by anyone or animal in need. She loved people and they loved her. She was a great story teller and could always leave you with a "good belly laugh". She will be deeply missed by her daughter Bonnie Schlueter and her son-in-law Don Schlueter, who both got to share in her daily life. Also son Jim O'Rourke, Jr and daughter-in-law Chris and two grandsons, Mike and Aaron O'Rourke of Alabama and Florida.And three very special friends, Brenda Cowden, Jo James and Shelly James of Springfield. Many extended family members of nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws. All will miss her unconditional love. To celebrate her life, please join her family and friends at Gorman-Scharpf 1947 E. Seminole Saturday, April 30th at 1pm for Visitation, Memorial service at 2pm with refreshments immediately following the service.
