Obituary

Mona Gayle Pearce McCann was born on a farm near Wilson's Creek National Battlefield on February 16th, 1934, to Roy E. Pearce and Zola E. Little Pearce.  She passed away on October 24, 2023.

It was a very civic-minded family. Grandfathers George W. Pearce and Martin J. Little were big influences in her life, George Pearce and his brother established the People's Bank of Clever & Billings, and Martin Little was a very close friend and helper to Congressman Dewey Short. She dearly loved her grandmothers also, and knew all four of her great-grandparents.

Mona attended Clever Elementary School and was taught honesty and close family ties.
Her family moved in 1948 to Springfield, where she attended Jarrett Junior High School and graduated from Springfield Senior High School. She went to Southwest Missouri State College and was a member of Sigma Sigma Sigma Sorority.

Mona married C. Gordon McCann in 1952 and lived a happy life full of many interesting experiences.

A longtime Republican committeewoman in Ward One, she held party offices in the 7th District and was a member of the State Republican Committee. As a "Nixon Girl" she co-chaired a Women for Nixon presidential campaign group. John C. Danforth came to her home for breakfast the first time he came to Springfield, and she was a volunteer on his successful campaigns for Missouri attorney general and later U.S. senator. She was employed by Senator Roy D. Blunt and Judge Thomas K. McGuire.

Mona was a member of the Junior League of Springfield, Heirloom Art Group and other civic groups. She was a Rountree Elementary School booster and a member of the Rountree Effectiveness Team.

Her hobbies were people, politics, fishing, antiques and football, in that order! She was an excellent cook. My dad once told someone that she was a great cook and he loved being married to her! We all loved gathering around her table, not only holidays, but anytime!

She is survived by her husband of 70 years, C. Gordon McCann; her daughter Abba Gayle Korosic (husband Chuck) and her son Charles Pearce McCann; granddaughter Lauren W. Campbell (husband Wes) and grandson Charles Matthew McCann. Great-grandsons Andrew Kennon Campbell and Charlie Anthony McCann; step-grandchildren Cheri Hensler (husband Kris) and Christopher Korosic; step-great grandchildren Madeline Hensler and Max Hensler; brother Ron Pearce (wife Pam); several nieces, nephews, cousins and their families.

Mona was a member of All Saints Anglican Church. She was blessed by many friends that God chose to surround her and her family. She had many guardian angels.
