Mona Carol Chappell, of Springfield, Mo., passed away February 14th, 2015. Mona was born October 25, 1928, to Thomas Edward and Nora Emily Lee in Cedar Gap MO. Mona was the youngest of eight children and the last surviving sibling. Mona married the late, John E. Chappell, June 1, 1951 in the Seymour Christian Church. Her family rejoiced that she was able to reunite with John, whom she loved so much, in heaven this Valentine's Day. From this union, two sons were born, who now survive her. Tom and his wife Melanee, of Springfield. His two daughters, Jessica Garner of St. Louis and Amanda Thomas of Springfield. Scott and his wife Carol (Turner) of Springfield and their daughter Lee who will graduate from Texas Christian University, this spring. Mona was very proud of her granddaughters and their accomplishments as young women. Unfortunately, due to her hearing loss, Mona was never able to hear and enjoy the beautiful voice of her granddaughter, Lee. She would have been so proud. She had a 25 year career with AT&T/Southwestern Bell. She interrupted that career in order to be home and raise her sons. As a mother, she was active in the Phelps Elementary PTA as secretary and President. John and Mona were members of South Street Christian Church. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. March 7, 2015 at Weaver Cemetery in Ozark, MO. A "Celebration of Life" Open House will follow. Mona was a private person who was a devoted and loving wife. She was a loving daughter, sister, aunt, wife, a mother, and grandmother. She was a long time resident of The Baptist Home. The family would like to express heartfelt thanks to The Baptist Home and Preferred Hospice of Ozark for their care and kindness. The family request in lieu of flowers contributions be made to the Alzheimer's Association or an organization of their choice.
