Miles "Mark" Christian Smalley, age 60, of Springfield, Missouri, passed away at Mercy Hospital on Saturday, July 10, 2021 surrounded by his loved ones.

Mark was born on December 11, 1960, in Dayton, OH to the late Robert and Shirley Smalley. He graduated from Lebanon High School and soon after became an Emergency Medical Technician and then a Paramedic. Mark continued his education at the St. Johns School of Nursing and graduated with his Bachelor's of Science in Nursing from Southwest Baptist University. He worked at Mercy Hospital for 35 years as a trauma and burn nurse and most recently as a clinical educator. He helped heal, comfort, and educate a countless number of people during his career in healthcare.

Mark loved his family more than anything. He married the love of his life Norma Lansdown on January 23, 1981, in Mansfield, Missouri. They celebrated 40 years of marriage this year. Together Mark and Norma had 3 children that he loved dearly.

Mark was known for his passion for others. He loved to take his friends and family to accompany him on his fishing and hunting adventures. When given the opportunity, he would cook and entertain for others as a way of showing he loved and cared for them. Mark never knew a stranger, he brought comfort and laughter to those around him through his fun-loving personality and constant jokes. There was nothing that he couldn't fix, no matter the project big or small, Mark always knew what to do. He would not hesitate to go out of his way for those that he loved. No matter the distance, he could drive for hours on end to visit his loved ones in various parts of the country. Mark was a proud husband, father, and grandfather. He proudly showed off pictures of his latest adventures with his family and, of course, his dogs. He also loved to show heritage to his home state by cheering on the Ohio State Buckeyes and the Cincinnati Reds.

Mark had a significant impact on the lives of many and will be deeply missed.

Survived by his wife of 40 years, Norma Smalley of Springfield, Missouri; children Andy and Tiffany Smalley of Republic, Missouri, Jacob and Miya Smalley of Clever, Missouri, and Madison and Justin Thomas of Springfield, Missouri; grandchildren Mia Smalley, Joseph Smalley, and Beau Smalley; his beloved dogs Daisy and Charlie; as well as numerous extended family members and friends.

Preceded in death by his parents Robert and Shirley Smalley; stepmother: Clara Smalley; father and mother-in-law: Homer and Ruby Lansdown; brother James Michael Smalley; sister Sally Houser; and grandson Mason Smalley.

Visitation will be Friday July 16, 2021, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home 1947 E. Seminole St. Springfield, Missouri 65804. Funeral service will be Saturday July 17, 2021, at 9:30 AM with Rev. Keith Adamson officiating in the funeral home. Interment will follow at Mansfield Cemetery, 209 N. Lincoln Ave. Mansfield, Missouri 65704.
