Mildred Irene (Grant) Pickett passed away Saturday, November 7, 2009 at 4:00 AM in Wichita, Kansas. Mildred was born in Halfway, Missouri on March 23, 1926 and lived in Springfield until 2008 when she moved to Wichita to be near her daughter. Mildred was preceded in death by her parents, Walter Grant and Oda Tollison; brother, Melvin Grant and wife, Charlene; sister-in-law, Eula Sartin and husband, Louie; and her husband of 60 years, Clifford Pickett. She is survived by her daughter, Linda Bair and son-in-law, George; son, Gary Pickett and daughter-in-law, Margaret; grandchildren, Abby Miller and husband, Keith, Joel, Michael and Adam Pickett; and a great-granddaughter, Zoe Kate Miller. Mildred is also survived by her in-laws, Beulah and Forrest Smotherman, Mancel and Leona Pickett, as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews, neighbors and good friends. Mildred worked with the girl scouts and boy scouts when her children were small then went on to become an avid bowler. Later she worked for the Cancer Society at Burge Hospital. She was a member of Seminole Baptist Temple and loved her Faith Class. Mildred will be missed for so many things. Some of them are: her wonderful pie, her love of card games, her easy laugh and her beautiful clothes. She was very close to her family. She loved her grandchildren and did not miss a ballgame or dance recital. No Tripolee game will be the same without her. Funeral services will be Wednesday, November 11, 2009 at 1:00 PM in Gorman-Scharpf Brentwood Chapel with the Reverend Mel Brown officiating. Mildred will be laid to rest beside Clifford at Maple Park Cemetery. Visitation will be today from 6 to 8 pm in the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to American Heart Association, 2446 E.
