Mildred Miller known in her later years as "Millie" passed away on Saturday March 31, 2018 at the age of 90.
Mildred Olean Brazeal was born on June 2, 1927 to Cecil and Ada (McCullough) Brazeal of Douglas County, MO. Mildred was the youngest of three children. Her brother Warren Brazeal; sister Wilma Brazeal Archer; and both parents preceded her in death.
Mildred married James Miller December 5, 1947. They were married for 65 years when Jim passed away at the age of 89 in November 2013.
Always the gracious hostess, Mildred offered to feed everyone that walked through her door, which by the way, was usually the back door that led directly into her kitchen. She always had a roast or a ham in the fridge and could make a sandwich at a moment's notice. She was also famous for her pies, they were not only delicious they were beautiful as well. If you left her home hungry it was your own fault.
She was an accomplished seamstress and took pride in the fact that she sent her daughters to school every day in beautiful, handmade dresses. They were always starched and ironed to perfection. She also made all three of her daughters' wedding dresses.
She loved to travel, and had many adventures. One highlight was a road trip to Alaska, Millie and Jim took in their motor home. They wintered in Arizona and traveled in the summer after retirement. Mildred retired from Springfield Public Schools. She was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church.
Above everything, she loved being with her family. Her grandchildren and later her great-grandchildren were the light of her life. Even at the end of her life amidst all her confusion she always asked about the babies, nothing made her smile more.
She is survived by three daughters, Judy Pittman (Neil), Nancy Spillman (Charlie) and Cathy Rowan (Mike); six grandchildren, Julianna Swope (Brad), Katie Lebeck (Chris), Jennifer Spillman (Erik), David Spillman (Daphne), Hannah Givler (Chris) and Seth Rowan; and thirteen great-grandchildren, Mason (Leara), Abbigayle, Landon, Oliver, Willow, Isabelle, Evelynn, Claire, Brielle, Dexter, Jack, Jude and Leo. She is also survived by her step-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Esther Nawrocki; and many nieces, nephews and their families.
