Mildred Ann "Nan" Whipple Lowry Kahman was born May, 8, 1919 in Joplin, MO to Pearle Bittick Whipple and Frederick Arthur Whipple, Sr., and died July 19, 2011 at the Baptist Home in Ozark, MO. She lived most of her life in Springfield, MO and graduated from Springfield High School in 1937. On November 14, 1937 she married her high school sweetheart, Ray Lowry, and to them three children were born. After Ray's death in 1978, Nan married Earl Kahmann in 1985. He preceded her in death in 2005. During their 20 year marriage, Nan and Earl traveled the world, both for pleasure and as members of the National Red Cross Disaster Team. Nan was a faithful member of University Heights Baptist Church since its founding in 1945. She was a former member of P.E.O. Chapter E.R. and World Arts Group of SMMA. Nan volunteered with many organizations during her lifetime, including Meals on Wheels, hospitals, schools and mission groups. Nan was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands and step son, Kan Kahman. She was the youngest of her parents' four children, all of whom preceded her in death. She is survived by her daughter, Becky Donaldson (Richard) of Springfield; son, Dan Lowry (Faye) of Burnsville, MN; daughter, Elizabeth Sheeley (Steve) of Marietta, GA; step-son, Paul Kahmann of Springfield; and step daughter-in-law, Sharon Kahmann of Ozark. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held at the Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, July 21, 2011. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, July 22, 2011 in University Heights Baptist Church, with burial to follow in White Chapel Memorial Gardens.
