Mildred Johnson, 95 of Springfield, passed away at 11:56 a.m. Saturday, January 21, 2017 in James River Care Center.  She was born January 7, 1922 in Chadwick, MO., the daughter of Guy Kemple and Tennie Aaron (Gilbert) Weagley.  She graduated as Valedictorian of her class at Chadwick High School in May 1939.  She received her Bachelor's Degree from Southwest Missouri State College in 1953 with a major in History, and a minor in Art.  She graduated from Drury College with a Master's Degree in Education in 1963.

She began her teaching career in Christian County and taught her first two years in a rural two room school at Oldfield, MO.  She taught 11 years in Christian County then 25 years in the Springfield Public School, as an elementary teacher.

She retired from teaching in June of 1978.

She was a member of Retired Teacher's Association, Missouri State Teacher's Association and a member of the Ozark Chapter #98 of Ozark Eastern Star.

She married Olin Ward Johnson on June 7, 1941.  She was converted and baptized at age 9.  She joined First Baptist Church of Springfield in 1954 and taught in the Primary Department of the Sunday School for 15 years.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Olin Ward Johnson, her parents Guy and Tennie Weagley and two brothers John and L.D. "Shorty" Weagley of Chadwick MO.

She is survived by a daughter, Judy Kay Manen; three granddaughters, Angela Martin, Terri Ash and Kristen Warren and husband, Randy Woods; and four great-grandchildren, Amber Lyn Martin, Shane Warren and Brendon and Brook Ash.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 25, 2017 in Gorman-Scharpf Brentwood Chapel.  Burial will follow in the Sparta IOOF Cemetery, Sparta, MO. No visitation is planned.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.
