Mildred "Maxine" Groover, 95, passed away Monday, Oct. 30, 2017 in St. Luke's Hospital, Overland Park, KS.
She was born Oct. 5, 1922 in Mountain Grove, MO to Marshall and Ida Smith.
Maxine volunteered for St. John's Hospital at the Auxiliary Information Desk and was a Partner in Performance as an usher for The Juanita K. Hammonds Hall for The Performing Arts. She enjoyed playing bridge and country western and ballroom dancing with her friends. Maxine also enjoyed traveling with the Council of Churches and other senior citizens tour groups.
She was preceded in death by her husband Clifton Reese Groover, Jr., son Clifton Reese Groover, III, and her parents.
Maxine is survived by son, Carl "Bruce" Groover, Greensboro, NC; three grandchildren, Jennifer Lynn Hubbard, Overland Park, KS; Kristin Lee Groover, NC; Douglas Bruce Groover, NC; four great-grandchildren, Kamryn Lee Hines and James Herbert Groover, both of NC; Marilyn Claire Hubbard and Jack Lawson Hubbard, both of Overland Park, KS; brother, Donald Lee Smith and his wife, Joan and their family, San Francisco, CA; niece, Ingrid Kuniqude Kitchen, Boerne, TX; along with other extended family and friends.
Private family burial will be held in Hazelwood Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Kitchen, 1630 N. Jefferson Ave., Springfield, MO 65803.
