Mildred Erb Gilbert, age 88, died peacefully at home on April 25, 2010. She was born May 12, 1921 in Cedar Gap, Missouri to Phil Erb and Ellen Ellett Erb. Her family moved to Springfield when she was 3. She attended Springfield Senior High School and Business College before working as the Woman's Page Editor of the Springfield News and Leader. During World War II she worked at O'Reilly General Hospital in the business office. She was a life long member of Christ Episcopal Church and a past president of St. Mary's Guild. She was a member of the Springfield Art Museum Board, the Springfield YWCA Board, Contemporary Art Group SMMA, the Lotus Dance Club, and Springfield Dance Club. Always interested in golf, she was a charter member of Twin Oaks Country Club, a member of City Golf, and the Missouri Seniors Golf Association. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Mrs. Guy C. Million Jr. of Sun City Center FL, and Mrs. James Leonard, of Champaign, IL and brothers, Phillip, Tim, and Dick Erb of Springfield. She is survived by her beloved husband of 68 years, Ralph, her daughter Susan Carrell and husband Winston Davis of Allenspark, CO., her daughter Kristen Hicks, of Springfield, and her daughter Mary Ann and husband Bruce Barton, of Springfield. Grandchildren are: Matthew Carrell of Huston, TX, Emily Pickett of Castle Rock, CO, and Kelsey Barton of Springfield. Great Grandchild is Ella Pickett of Castle Rock, CO. A celebration of her life will be Wednesday, April 28, 2010 at 2 PM at Christ Episcopal Church under the care of Gorman-Scharpf Brentwood Chapel.
