Obituary

Michael J. Penn, 60 of Rogersville passed away at 1:57 PM Saturday, July 18, 2009 in Rogersville, Missouri. Mike was an avid sportsman who loved family and country. He served with the US Army as an Airborne Ranger from 1966 to 1969. He served in Vietnam from 1968-1969 and was awarded a Bronze Star with V for Valor, three Purple Hearts, two Army Commendation Medals with V for Valor, numerous Air Medals, the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal with Device, the Vietnam Service Medal, plus earning the Combat Infantry Badge and Parachute Badge. A good man who will be missed by many. He was a life member of American Legion, the Disabled American Veterans, Military Order of the Purple Heart and Ducks Unlimited. He was preceded in death by his son, Casey Penn and his father, Wendell E. Penn. Mike is survived by his mother, Rosamunde Penn of Springfield; two sisters, Susanne Penn of Houston, TX and Patricia Wilkinson and her husband, Ken of Tucson, AZ; and a brother, Steven Penn of Springfield. Graveside services with full military honors will be Wednesday, July 22, 2009 at 11:00 AM in Springfield National Cemetery with Chaplain Bob Carroll of American Legion Post #639 officiating under the care of Gorman-Scharpf Brentwood Chapel. No visitation is planned. Memorial contributions may be made to Disabled American Veterans, 1708 E. St. Louis Street, Springfield, MO 65802.
