Michael D. Palmer "Papa" Mike, 62 of Rogersville, Missouri passed away at 3:32 am on Tuesday, May 1, 2012 near Lebanon, Missouri from injuries sustained in an accident. He enjoyed fishing, horses, living in the country, building race cars, drag racing, westerns, golfing and being a truck driver but above all else he loved his family and always made sure they were safe. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather who will be deeply missed. Mike served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He was a member of Galloway Baptist Church, and the NHRA. He was preceded in death by his father, John Palmer; his dad, Gene Rutledge; and his grandparents, Ida Mae and George Batterson, Grutrude and John Palmer. Mike is survived by his wife, Carolyn (Allen) Palmer of the home; son, Chris Palmer; daughter, Amanda Palmer; son, Clint Palmer; and his mother, Georgia (Batterson) (Palmer) Rutledge, all of Rogersville; sister, Pat (Palmer) Batson of Springfield; sister, Julie (Rutledge) Bowling and husband, Tommy of Rogersville; grandson, Ramzeey Palmer of Rogersville; granddaughter, Kristin Palmer of Springfield; and many extended family and friends. Visitation will be Wednesday, May 9, 2012 from 11:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. at Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home, 1947 East Seminole, Springfield. Inurnment with full military honors will follow at 2:00 pm in Springfield National Cemetery.
