Obituary

Michael D. Jurgens age, 75 of Springfield, Missouri passed away on July 20, 2021.  Mike was born on April 7, 1946 to Edward and Helen Jurgens in Waynesville, Missouri.

Mike graduated from Marshfield High School in 1964 and was drafted into the Army and served in the Vietnam War as a firefighter.

Mike then attended Southwest Missouri State University, now Missouri State University (MSU) and received a Bachelor of Science degree in 1976. He worked at Ridewell Corporation for 44 years as a mechanical engineer designing suspension systems.

Mike was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church where he served as an RCIA team member, usher, and Eucharistic Minister.  He was also a member of The American Legion and National Hot Rod Association. Mike loved drag racing his 1968 Camaro and watching St. Louis Cardinals baseball.  He was a longtime supporter of Men's and Lady Bears basketball at MSU and a member of the Missouri State Bears Fund.  Mike was especially proud of his children and grandchildren.

Mike is preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, Daniel, Leroy, Hilary, and Francis, two sisters, Juanita Lister and Jeanne Donovan, and one niece, Diane Tayon.

Mike is survived by his wife of 45 years, Peggy, daughter, Lisa Blades Holman (Mark), granddaughter, Madeline and grandson, Jarrett, all from Dallas, Texas; Son, Ron (Allison), Apex, North Carolina; grandson, Eddie and granddaughter, Ashley Livingston (Aaron), Waxahachie, Texas; granddaughter, Mackenzie, Fayetteville, North Carolina, grandson, Garrett, Fort Hood, Texas; and great-grandchildren, Khloe and Everly, Waxahachie, Texas, and sister, Marcella (Toni) Dressel, O'Fallon, Missouri; along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 pm with a prayer service at 7:30 pm on Tuesday, July 27 th at Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home.  Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, July 28 th at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with Fr. Belken officiating.  The service will be live streamed on Immaculate Conception Parish's Facebook page.  Burial with Military Honors will be at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery immediately following the service.

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the staff at Cox Medical Center South for their support and care of Mike.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church or the charity of the donor's choice.
