Miller
August 4, 1932 – April 2, 2018
Melba Nadine (Durington) Miller of Springfield passed away April 2, 2018 at The Castlewood Senior Living Community. She was born August 4, 1932, outside Buffalo, Mo., to Roma and Edna Stafford Durington. She married her loving husband, William "Wayne" Miller, on December 30, 1951. They were blessed with four children, Debra, Bill, Dennis, and Denise. Melba graduated from Buffalo High School at the age of 16 in 1949. After graduation, Melba took college courses and worked in Kansas City. She raised their children and supported Wayne throughout his 34 years with Proctor and Gamble before opening Deck the Walls with her family in 1982 and managing until 2003. She was a longtime member of King's Way UMC where she served in the office for many years and a lifetime member of Beta Sigma Phi. Melba was an avid Missouri State baseball fan and basketball season ticket holder for over 45 years. She loved going to the Springfield Cardinals games, Little Theater, Bridge Group and Art Group. She was a tremendous cook and known for her delicious pies.
Melba is survived by her children: daughter, Debra (Steve) Mutert – Stephanie and Sean (Brenda), great-grandson, Carter; son, William W. (Julie) Miller, Jr., – Janeen Rheinecker, great-granddaughters, Jadeyn and Jolee, Trey and Ky Miller; son, Dennis (Lorie) Miller – Emily (Zach) Gregory, great-grandson, Henry, Caleb and Ellie; daughter, Denise (Bob) Sundvold – Bobby, Ryne, Haley and Cameron. Also surviving, a brother Jerry (Zadie) Durington, sisters-in-law Linna (Bill) Durington and Jewell (Bob) Durington, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and caring friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 53 years, mother-in-law Faye Degraffenreid Miller, brothers Bill and Bob Durington, brother and sister-in-law Bobby and Dorothy Miller and sister and brother-in-law Wilda and Victor Jacobson. Visitation and funeral will be in Gorman-Scharpf Brentwood Chapel. Visitation is Friday, April 6, 5-7pm and funeral service Saturday, April 7, 10am, immediately followed by interment in Hazelwood Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Missouri State Foundation in memory of Melba Miller.
