Mayme (Johnson) Evans, age 85, was born in Collinsville, OK, to Otis Johnson and Constance (Lovellette) Johnson on October 2, 1925. She died Monday, January 24, 2011 in Springfield Mo. She was Drum Majorette at Collinsville High, made Boeing aircraft parts during World War II and in 1946 she married Edward Emerson Evans in Wellington, Kansas. Their union produced three children who survive; Donna Evans Moran, Gary (Sue) Evans and Glenn Evans, all of Springfield. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Geoffrey Moran, San Diego, CA, Sara (Mike) Heptig, Lawrence, KS and CJ and Kirby McCoy of Springfield; two sisters, Ann Denny, Oklahoma City, OK and Bonnie Lyman, Council Bluffs, IA and her dear BFF Ilene Chastain. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Buck and Doyle Johnson, sisters, Juanita Stone and Francis Horning, cousin, Lawrence Porter and a beloved nephew Melvin Johnson. A Celebration of Mayme's life will be held at 2 p.m., on Saturday, January 29 in Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home. No visitation is planned however friends may meet the family immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers please help Springfield's needy children have shoes.
