LTC Max F. Pachl Jr, Retired, age 91, died Monday, September 4, 2017 at his home in Springfield, MO.

Max is survived by the love of his life, wife, Jo, of sixty-five years & son Max F. Pachl III (Jane Parker-Pachl), daughter Constance Pachl (James Conant) & son-in-law Mark Haldiman.  He is preceded in death by daughter, Annette Pachl Haldiman, his parents Max & Etta Pachl & eight siblings.  He also leaves behind six grandchildren: Brooke West (Pachl), Sara Haldiman, Andrea Pachl, Max F. Pachl IV (Lauren Pachl), Tom Haldiman (Lindsey Haldiman) & Elly Haldiman.  As well as four great-grandchildren: Jeremiah West, Weston & Landon Haldiman and Jude Pachl.  Max was the uncle and great uncle to many nieces and nephews whom he also loved dearly.

Max was a veteran of the WWII, Korean & Vietnam Wars, where he earned several medals, including the National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal & Army Commendation Medal. After he retired from the military in 1968, Max pursued his education completing his MBA & went on to have careers in business, education & real estate.

Among his many interests, Max enjoyed painting, needlepoint, woodworking, stain-glass, piano playing, singing, gardening & writing poetry.  Max chronicled his time in the military and the friends and brothers he made and kept up with for many year's post service.  Another passion, that if you knew Max at all you have heard about it many times, was swimming.  Max attributed his health and good spirits to his daily routine of swimming and yoga.  Max swam every morning up until this past year.

Services will be held Saturday, Sept. 9, 2017 at 11am at Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home with Reverend Dr. John Nipper officiating.  Max will be interred Monday, September 11, 2017 at 10am at Missouri Veterans Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Salvation Army and/or the Springfield Family YMCA.
