Obituary

Maurine (McClurg) Haymes, 95 of Springfield passed peacefully from this life on Saturday, April 11, 2015 in Springfield. She was born near Buffalo, Missouri on February 21, 1920 to William J. and Gertrude (Sweaney) McClurg. Maurine was a lifelong Springfield and Missouri educator who taught for 35 years. She held degrees from SMS and Drury. She was a past president of the Southwest Missouri State Teachers Association and past secretary of the Missouri Department of Classroom Teachers. She was a charter member of Delta Kappa Gamma. She was an active member of First Baptist Church in Springfield and in later years of Second Baptist Church. Maurine was preceded in death by her husband, Campbell, sister Ann Stacey and brother Jim McClurg. Survivors include nephews Mike Stacey (Debra), Darryl Stacey, niece, Cheryl Arthur, great-nephews Nathan, Adam and Joey Stacey, and Monte McClurg, great-niece Molly McClurg, Cousins, Marjorie Roberts, Jerry Sweaney and long-time special friend Linda Cravens. Maurine was loved and admired by her family and friends. The family thanks the caregivers at The Maples and Hospice for their kindness to Maurine. Visitation will be at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, April 15, 2015 at Gorman-Scharpf Brentwood Chapel followed by services at 2:00 pm. Burial will follow in Hazelwood Cemetery.
