Leigh Whitney Nye, 28, and Matthew Stuart Nye, 23, both of Springfield, passed away Sunday, October 10, 2010 in Christian County. Both were born in Springfield to Jeffrey Stuart and Kimberly Ann Nye. Leigh was born March 30, 1982 and Matt, December 18, 1986. Leigh had been working as a nanny and was an accomplished writer. Matt worked in the Finance Department of Tracker Marine Division of Bass Pro Shops. Both were graduates of Springfield Catholic High School. Matt was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity at the University of Arkansas and was a graduate of Missouri State University. Both were loving, joyous souls who spread happiness to everyone they met. Both were best friends and loving children and will be sorely missed. They were preceded in death by their maternal grandparents, Jackson and Nellie VanDover of St. Louis. Leigh and Matt are survived by their parents, Jeff and Kim Nye; paternal grandparents, Ken and Patricia Nye, Leawood, Kansas; aunts and uncles, Leslie Nye and her children, Lucia and Crystal, Leawood, Kansas; Stacy Kilker and husband Mike, and their children, Michael and Lucy; Scott VanDover and wife Debbie, and their children, Jamie (Mishaal), Ryan (Monika), Allison, Jack and Charlotte; Kara Byrne and husband John, and their children, Jared, Christopher, Mollie and Courtney, Leslie Godfrey and her husband Matt, and their children, Kellie, Kerianne, Hollie and Will; all of St. Louis; and extended family and a multitude of friends. Funeral mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, October 14, 2010 in St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father Denis Dougherty OSB, celebrant, under the care of Gorman-Scharpf Brentwood Chapel. Burial will follow in Eastlawn Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home.
