Matthew David Hiett passed away on Saturday, November 3, 2012. He was 25 years old. Matthew was born on December 3, 1986 in Springfield, Missouri to Dave E. and Sue (Anderson) Hiett. He graduated from Kickapoo High School in 2005 and attended Ozarks Technical Community College, graduating with a degree in Healthcare Information Technology Coding in 2010. We will remember Matthew as an exceptionally kind and gentle person, with a quirky sense of humor and a strong sense of loyalty. He loved all of the family dogs, and took it upon himself to look after them every day. He played an essential role in keeping up the home and was always willing to help his parents. He was his mother's eyes when she couldn't read fine print or thread needles, and he was his father's hands when he needed help with household projects. One of his favorite activities included walking the dogs at Cherokee Middle School and Ozark Greenways Trails with his father and other family members. He also was an avid physical fitness enthusiast, and could be found most days at St. John/Mercy fitness center working out. Often Matthew would stay up late with his brothers, chatting in the kitchen and laughing the night away. These are memories we will cherish forever. He will be sorely missed. Matthew was preceded in death by his grandparents, Ted and Edith Anderson and Max Hiett. He is survived by his parents Dave and Sue Hiett and brother Jesse Hiett, all of Springfield; his brother Ryan Hiett and partner Chad Carson, of Chicago; his brother Charlie Hiett and wife Anna, of Pensacola, FL; grandmother Mary Hiett, of Faribault, MN; many aunts, uncles, and cousins; and beloved dogs Brandy, Pinky, Teddy, and Basil. Visitation will be held at Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home on Thursday, November 8, from 6 to 8 pm with a prayer service at 7:30pm. Funeral Mass will be at 10 am Friday, November 9 at St. Agnes Cathedral with burial to follow in Maple Park Cemetery, Springfield. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Castaway Animal Rescue Effort (CARE) Charity, P.O. Box 215, Aurora, MO 65605. His family would like to express its gratitude for the outpouring of support and sympathy during this very difficult time.
