IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Mary Elna
Weaver
April 10, 1935 – March 1, 2019
Mary Elna Coplin Weaver, age 83, passed away March 1, 2019 in Springfield, MO at Spring Valley Nursing Home. She was born April 10, 1935 in Jackson, TN to Dr. Leonard and Sara Elna Coplin, RN.
She is survived by her husband of 61 years, John Wayne Weaver and two children John Coplin Weaver (wife Terry) of Springfield, MO and Mary Kate Axlund of Rawlins, WY.
Mary has 3 grandchildren (Kim and Jessica in TX and Travis in SD) along with 2 great-grandchildren both living in Texas.
Mary received her undergraduate degree from the University of Tennessee in Home Economics and her Master's degree in Family Finance. Her career extended throughout a broad spectrum of occupations, from teaching Home Economics in Florida, Sears instructor for lessons on how to use their new sewing machines, Missouri County Extension Services, as well as a nutrition specialist for Meals on Wheels in Ft Worth, TX. At one point she also was teaching GED and coordinating events in the prison system in Ft Worth. One of the last jobs she had was teaching nutrition and child care to low income families and young mothers in Southeast Missouri. She would spend her weekends going to garage sales to gather up all the baby clothes that she would get and then go distribute them to her clients.
With Wayne, she was an active member of the Church of Christ wherever they lived in the thirty some odd times they moved. The last wonderful and loving church was the Sunset Church of Christ.
Her favorite pastimes included her cat, reading, sewing, cooking, crocheting, and traveling with her family when they were younger. And most of all she took care of the human strays that her husband brought home…college students, snowed in Thanksgiving travelers, foreign exchange students, the Horizon singing group…by feeding them a truly Southern breakfast of eggs, bacon, biscuits, fried chicken, and watermelon. Her guests never forgot it. She was a memory maker.
We, her family, miss her greatly. But Mary Weaver is now fully red headed and a healthy person who knows who she is. God was excited about her finally coming home.
Memorial service will be held at 3:00 PM, Thursday, March 7, 2019 in Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home.
