Obituary

Mary Eleanor Turner Hermanski, whose altruistic spirit touched the lives of many, left this life for her greater reward on February 14, 2014. Mary proudly served the Girl Scout organization for 33 years, first as a volunteer leader and later as Public Relations Director of the Dogwood Trails Girl Scout Council. Her dedication to her motto, "Put the girl first" earned her the official Thanks Badge, The Lucy Wise Award and a Missouri State Senate Resolution honoring her service to the community. Mary had a life-long passion for music. She played viola in the Springfield Symphony in her youth. Any soul whoever heard her sing will never forget her heartfelt voice. Mary was preceded in death by her devoted parents, James and Louise Turner; beloved daughter, Tracy Palmer; and dear sister, Debbie Lambeth. She will be deeply missed by her daughters, Karla VanBuren and Lori Zeppenfeldt; sisters, Nancy Hicks and Jimmie Lou Wright; brothers-in-law, Clarence Hicks, Don Wright and Sonny Lambeth; grandchildren, Austin Zeppenfeldt and fiancé Aimee Snell, Jessica Zeppenfeldt and fiancé Ethan Davis, Hope VanBuren and Heather VanBuren; along with precious cousins, nieces, nephews, friends and countless unnamed daughters whose lives were touched by Mary and her never-ending devotion to the spirit of girls and scouting. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Mary Hermanski Memorial Fund, Missouri Heartland Girl Scout Council, 210 S. Ingram Mill Road, Springfield, Missouri 65802. Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 22, 2014 at 2pm in Gorman-Scharpf Brentwood Chapel.
